Announcing the Semba Teacher for the Free Kizomba & Semba Dance Bootcamp!

Araceli Castillo, a native Texan of Mexican and German descent, has been no stranger to dance. Her mixed heritage exposed her to various dance genres including cumbia, polka, huapangos, redovas and chotis. Araceli performed her first folkloric dance when she was 10 years old. In 1998, she started dancing to country music and in 2007, added salsa, bachata, merengue, and cha cha cha. In 2012, she performed with the Dallas Divas salsa team. Later that year, she was introduced to Kizomba and became an ambassador of the dance by hosting the first (and mostly covert) Kizomba practica on Mondays. She then organized public workshops and dance socials, including the Elizio Live Dance Experience and Dallas Muzongue, both in 2016. She became known as “Ms. Kizomba” in the dance community. Araceli was constantly traveling to further her Kizomba training, learning from mentors such as Mestre Petchu, Lucia Nogueira, Bonifacio, and Adilson Maiza, just to name a few. In early 2015, Araceli partnered with Domingos Messa from Luanda, Angola to form Kianda a Dancar. Together they taught several workshops in Dallas, Houston, South Padre Island, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From 2015 until the great pandemic of 2020, Araceli taught weekly Kizomba classes in Dallas and acted as the primary Kizomba deejay (DJ Araceli) for two monthly dance socials in the Dallas dance community. In 2018, Araceli traveled to Luanda, Angola to deepen her dance and music knowledge. She is known as a Kizomba/Semba instructor, deejay, and event organizer.
